Visionary Eye Care was founded in 1996 by Drs Michael Ciszek and Barbara Butler-Schneider in the Andersonville neighborhood on Chicago’s northside. Their founding motto was “Understanding your unique needs.” It's a promise we strive to keep in both our Andersonville location and at our new downtown store. Lion's Club Recycle for Sight Program
Donated eyeglasses can help millions to experience corrected vision for the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment and take care of their families. Visionary is proud to participate in the Lion's Club eyeglasses recycling program.

Not only are regular eye exams important for maintaining your vision, they can also help identify serious health conditions. At Visionary Eye Care, we want you to look stunning in your new frames, but we also want to do our part to keep your eyes healthy for years to come.

Emergencies
If you are experiencing a problem, please contact us immediately. We will make every effort to see you as quickly as possible. We treat most eye health and vision conditions in office.

Lasik

Whether you’re budget conscious or a fashion diva, Visionary has eyewear for you. Our opticians are trained to help you find the perfect frame. We won’t just tell you what you want to hear – we’re actually honest! If a frame doesn’t fit (or just looks plain ugly) we will tell you… it’s the fun part of our job.

We stand behind our frames.
Sometimes glasses are in the wrong place at the wrong time. If your frames break, bring them in so we can determine whether they can be repaired. If it’s the result of a manufacturing flaw, we’ll fix them for you at no charge, or replace them within one year of purchase. We will do our best to repair your glasses on the spot.

We handcraft eyeglasses at Visionary. Once you select your frames, our ABO-certified opticians will customize your eyewear. We specialize in high index lenses which means you will have the lightest and thinnest lenses for your new frames. All lenses include anti-reflective (AR) coating for glare reduction. AR also makes your lenses invisible to onlookers, naturally revealing your eyes. Add-ons may include scratch-resistant coating, permanent or transition tinting, safety and multi-prescription lenses.

If you wear bifocals, we offer progressive lenses that function better than traditional bifocals, while preserving the look of your new eyewear. Basic prescriptions can be finished within 24 hours.

With our in-house finishing lab we have quick turn-around, provided we have your prescription in stock. We want you to look good, and see even better!

Contacts for all eye types. For those who want the flexibility of wearing contacts, Visionary offers the full range of options.

Specialty lenses are available for a variety of eye conditions including bifocals, astigmatism, and dry eyes. Your doctor will choose the lens that best meets your needs. We offer all the major brands as well as lenses from small specialty labs.

Insurance questions? Visionary’s staff is trained to work with direct bill, network and out-of-network insurance policies. We can help demystify insurance-speak and help you submit forms for reimbursement, but we cannot provide specific policy information.

For more information about your policy benefits please contact your provider. Direct billing is available for our patients who use VSP insurance and EyeMed Vision Care insurance. We also work with PPO for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois
